Fiona is University trained Counsellor who holds both a Bachelor (psychology) and Master-level (counselling) qualifications.
Fiona is an ACA-registered (Level 4) and ANZICA-registered counsellor offering a wide range of fertility, perinatal and general counselling. She has also undertaken additional postgraduate studies in Fertility Counselling (2019) - a specialised area of counselling that requires a unique understanding and medical education.
In 2019, Fiona conducted a research thesis on Fertility-Related Quality of Life giving her valuable insight into the specific areas of life that can suffer during both primary and secondary infertility. Fiona was also a volunteer parent supporter with SANDS (Miscarriage, Stillbirth, Neonatal Death Support), supporting bereaved parents via their support line. SANDS later merged with Red Nose where Fiona continued delivering the TFMR support group for a number of years. Fiona also worked with Red Nose as a National Bereavement Counsellor. Fiona also a counselling provider with QLD Police Early Intervention Program (EITP) and their Self-Refer program, as well as AccessEAP. Feel free to ask more about how to access these Employee Assistance Programs.
Along with a special interest for the fertility and perinatal field, Fiona offers general counselling services to support individuals and couples along their journey of healing and growth. Many people are thriving in lots of other areas of their life but when life invariably throws a curveball, it can be beneficial to spend some time with a non-judgemental, understanding and compassionate professional who can help you to uncover valuable inner wisdom and answers. Fiona finds the counselling space full of purpose and hopes to have a meaningful impact in people’s lives.
Fiona offers a client-centered approach that draws on a variety of frameworks including internal family system (IFS), relational life therapy (RLT), attachment theory, strengths based, compassion and emotion focused modalities. Working eclectically, she tailors her therapeutic approach to the client’s needs that includes traditional talk therapy and extends to creative and expressive therapies, such as, drawing, writing and symbol-work, as well as mindfulness and meditation. Fiona strives to create a warm and inviting space for her clients and offers both, face to face and telehealth sessions.
